What graceful primates

What graceful primates swinging through branches uninvited,
Sun-risen on frosted eyes uncovered,
a thousand luminescent-rayed sapphires scattered into timbers above, into
near-innocent epithets  of errant farm boys scribbled.

From sage-tufted precipice
dive palms together: petrichor of raw ochre glow.

This life-boat dinghy amidst swirls of flotsam,
unswept paper wasps relinquished direction
drying in their sun-thrashing hold.

From ridge-pole rafter hawser held
I throw myself over the edge like so many laughing children
belly flop splashing plastic cups and poolside aunties.

The warm air sweeps
down through treetops with beautiful momentum,
across jelly-roll hay bells on frosted field
unhindered even by this reliquary of
foot-embedded splinter.
